The leaves on the trees are visible, as are the textures of the various surfaces and the facial features of the NPCs. The lighting was a major upgrade, and it looks spectacular in this game. The main campaign is the same and there're notable better gameplay mechanics that have been implemented in the newer game. Hitman World of Assassination (Hitman 3) also contains all three games in the series and includes new game modes that are not present in Hitman 1.

Silent Assassin is the hardest by far. Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, no contest. If you were going for an SA rating on any mission, God be with you. At least in Codename 47 that didn't exist and once it did in subsequent games we knew it was impossible.
