It's an open world game, but each zone generally has the same cookie cutter feel. I think it took me under 200 hours to complete all content and DLCs in Witcher 3, but Witcher 2 took under 100. Is The Witcher 2 a hard game : From personal experience the Hard difficulty in Witcher 2 isn't that bad once you get the hang of the combat system. I felt it was easier than Witcher 1's Hard difficulty. You shouldn't have any problems playing Witcher 2 on Hard for your first playthrough.
