Witcher 2 choices affect Witcher 3's story in terms of the development of Geralt and the world around him as he rebuilds his former life. With the help of the sorceress Síle de Tancarville, Geralt recovers his memories regarding Yennefer of Vengerberg, a powerful sorceress and his lover from the books and series. The Witcher 2 introduced more critical aspects of the universe, including other witcher schools, monarchs, and military leaders connected with world-changing conflicts. While The Witcher 2 is a definite improvement over the previous games, it's still unnecessary to play to enjoy The Witcher 3.They all follow one timeline. The first game starts after the book series ends I think it said something like 5 years later, Witcher 2 happens between 1–5 months (the games are a little inconsistent here) after the first game, and Witcher 3 happens about 6 months after Witcher 2.
Can you play Witcher 3 without 1 and 2 : So in other words, storywise it doesn't make any difference which games you do or don't play before Witcher 3, because Witcher 3's story will still be a mess in every & any case. I never played Witcher 1 & 2 and didn't feel like Witcher 3's story is a mess. And obviously hundreds of thousands of people didn't.
Is Witcher 2 or 3 better
On the other hand, The Witcher 3 is a fair bit more permissive, with combat being smoother and faster, fitting in better with the open-world, free-roam structure. Geralt is also more resilient and quick healing with potions is more of an option than it was in TW2, which required you to drink all potions ahead of time.
Is Witcher 3 a sequel of 2 : It is the sequel to the 2011 game The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and the third game in The Witcher video game series, played in an open world with a third-person perspective. The games follow the Witcher series of fantasy novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski.

you can directly play witcher 3. the game make sure to explain most of the things and characters. though playing witcher 2 before hand will be better to get to know most of the lore and characters of the game. it is not necessary to play wither 2 before but playing it is advisable.
How far apart are Witcher 2 and 3
The Witcher 3 for example, takes six months after the events of The Witcher 2 ended. During that time, tons of crazy things have happened that drastically changed the state of the game world. That's why it's understandable why players get disoriented or bewildered even if they came from the 2nd game.By being more linear, The Witcher 2 feels more focused and to the point, having quests and side quests that don't deviate too much from the base plot. This contrasts the main questline of the third game, where you have to run back and forth with little advancement.Skipping to it (Assuming you're not done the witcher 1) wont be that bad, youll get the references to the game that they throw off during the begining of the witcher 2 which will be good.
You definitely don't need to. The Witcher 3 does a good job of explaining things. Although in the Witcher 2 you'll see what happened earlier to some of the characters who will appear in The Witcher 3 such as Roche and Phillipa.

Are Witcher 1 and 2 worth it : OP, I disliked the first Witcher, but the second one is really better, I loved it, and the controls have changed immensely. You may or may not like it, but don't let the first Witcher's controls throw you off, they're not there anymore. It feels more like a Mass Effect with swords now, gameplay-wise.
Is The Witcher 2 shorter than 1
It is definitely shorter… Witcher 1 took me about 50 hours. This one took about 35-40… I tried to explore everything so you could run through it faster if you so desired.
The witcher game series handles much like the books. each game is it's own story, but each game has events and characters that relate through other games or books. because of this, you do not have to play one game to understand something in another. although it may make a little more sense. Is this really necessary CD Projekt Red announced that The Wild Hunt will be about 35 times larger than The Witcher 2. The Witcher 2 was already a fairly large game with a lot of options and side quests.
