Haven't Played the original titles, should I jump straight into this 2023 edition or go play the original ones first I recommend starting the game from the latest installment, i.e. Layers of Fear. It contains both modernized "previous" parts. Now that's the complete story.
Besides that and some technical issues, Layers of Fear 2 is another horror masterpiece and improves on what the original accomplished. The jump scares are a bit overdone, same as the original Layers of Fear, and there's an abysmal chase sequence in the second act that could've been cut completely. Definitely play the first one prior. The storyline is heavily connected and you will probably feel confused and out of place if you don't. Although, as previously stated, ignore the expansions. They're spin-offs made by a different developer.
