Its definitely worth it. The most relaxing game ever if you like to cruise from one country, or town, to another. I mean if it's worth it without DLC Also not buying any DLCs and just using the base map/game will give you a good indication if you want to keep playing.Time Compression

Is the ETS2 base game worth it : Personal opinion, for a new player the base game is well worth the money, even better when bought during a sale which happen quite often. Eventually you'll want to get some dlc, which are best is pure personal taste, a lot of people tend to like the ones of whereabouts they live.

To add to the above answer, in Europe the trucks are electronically limited to 90km/h. If you want to play by the book, then you'll drive at 90 max. If you want to speed over, you can indeed disable the truck limiter in the options, except for the external contracts. As mentioned already, Speed Limiter.
They aren't completely true to life. It would be impossible for that to happen. I recommend that you try the demo, which is the full game, but with a time limit for play. Maps, roads, topography I believe is called "prototypical".
Is ATS as good as ETS2
American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator are essentially the same game, with different geographical locations and different trucks .. they are made by the same Developer, SCS, and run on the same game-engine .. Graphics are nearly identical, performance is nearly identical. The feature is part of the Photo Studio on the menu page, where you choose your jobs, radio station and so on.. Photo mode is "fly" and that's always been there. Walk mode is in truck modifcation at a garage/repair shop only.how long does it take to beat the game The Sim has NO end. It's continuous.
Eventually you DO fall asleep and if you're driving, the truck keeps going while your screen goes black because your driver closed their eyes for a nap.
What is better, ATS or ETS : For one, the ATS avoids some of the annoyances the ETS has. Mainly it has no toll booths (only weight stations and those can often be bypassed) and you can drive more hours in a row, so you are a lot more flexible. What really sets the ATS apart however are the higher speed limits in most of the states.
Are ETS2 mods legal : 99.9% of mods are illegal because they are using the copyrights/trademarks of real companies without permission. I thought modding the original game contents was legal because SCS has given consent to the modders as long as we don't sell the mods and not using any brand that is not originally in the game.
Why is ETS so popular
Well, fundamentally, because it's good. It has satisfying driving physics, a vast, atmospheric map and a peaceful, stress-free way about it that you can easily lose an entire evening to. Fans of the game often describe it as hypnotic, and it really is.
Currently just over 6,000 people playing ATS on steam while over 31,000 are playing ETS 2.Alan, The mods on Steam are free and always will be. The only paid items on Steam are the DLCs.
Can you drive a car in ETS2 : After the tutorial and intro mission you can completely ignore the racing and story bits and just drive around the country. City Car Driving. It's exactly this game, but as a car. in workshop is a mod for a car, also a bus, they drive very similar to the trucks though.
