It's one of those books everyone should read… but not as a forced school assignment. It should be something parents want to share with their kids around 7 or 8… teaching them about how to be respectful and kind to all creatures. And then take them horseback riding to see what it's actually like.For all time, the most frequently banned book is 1984 by George Orwell. (How very Orwellian!) The most banned and challenged book for 2020 was George by Alex Gino.I had forgotten the sadness that comes in this story; the abuse of wonderful horses and it was even more saddening to hear it from Black Beauty's point of view. The saddest part was when Black Beauty met Ginger in town. Ginger had an awful owner again and wanted nothing more but to be dead so the pain would stop.

This book is ideal to read to children aged 3+, and for children from age 5 or 6 to read independently.
