In my opinion, this is the greatest game of all time. A brilliant RTS with a highly active player base, beautifully crafted campaigns & scenarios and competitive online multiplayer.
Is Age of Empires 2 better than 1 : If you are only buying one (and this is in the most literal sense) go with AOE 2, the game simply has more content and is more refined. Not a lot of people would say that the 1st game is better than the second; in this case it holds to be true.
Is AOE2 difficult
Age Of Empires 2 is often described as being notoriously difficult to get the hang of, and this goes double for the campaign missions. They are complicated and challenging, even for the most experienced players.
Should I play AOE2 or AOE4 : Age of Empires II, both HD and DE versions, are preferable to Age of Empires IV. The gameplay, mechanics, community, development history and even aesthetics look better. You are also able to emulate the factions of AoEIV with the present AoEII civilizations.

Age of Empires is a challenging game, especially when you play at high levels. For a long time, I tought it was impossible to win with the difficulty level set to HARDEST. Indeed, to most players, it will either be extremely hard or downright impossible.
Should I buy AOE2 or aoe4
Age of Empires II, both HD and DE versions, are preferable to Age of Empires IV. The gameplay, mechanics, community, development history and even aesthetics look better. You are also able to emulate the factions of AoEIV with the present AoEII civilizations.2 is the one that basically nailed it and its still very much alive despite how old the game is. It depends a bit on what you're looking for but its probably the best one to get in a general sense, but again it depends on what you look for in an RTS.Interested. Is Age of Empires 4 easier than 2 : I've always found two really challenging and have only beaten hard AI once, but I consistently lose. I bought age 4 recently and found the AI quite passive and within 20 game hours I've beaten it on hard. I just hit the 30 mark and I feel almost ready to beat hardest. The AI seems so easy!!!
