Sorry to disappoint you, but neither MS nor the other Flight Sim software producers provide free versions. The best you can get is the FSX Demo version, which gives you about 30 minutes of flight.
Is FSX realistic : ATC and air traffic are funtional but not very realistic. With add ons though FSX can be very realistic, you can get complex jet add ons with all systems simulated, where every button and switch does what it's supposed to and can be flown from real world manuals – actually you'll struggle to fly without them.
