Why tap off a bus
At the end of the day our system will automatically work out how many buses you have travelled on that day and charge you accordingly – always capping the price at the day ticket rate. It's important to remember to always tap on and tap off otherwise you may find yourself charged more for your journey.
How does tap in work on buses : No need to choose the ticket to buy upfront, simply Tap on with the driver and Tap off on the dedicated reader as you get off on every journey. Only pay for what you use – when you Tap on and Tap off for one journey, we'll work out the single fare based on distance and you'll only pay for that single fare journey.
A Penalty Fare is £100 plus the price of the full single fare applicable for your intended journey. However, if it is paid within 21 days, the Penalty Fare is reduced to £50 plus the price of the single fare applicable.
To make sure you are charged correctly! If you only tap on and then don't tap off, the system cannot calculate your daily cap as effectively and you may be charged more than you should. This is especially important if you are travelling on a bus that goes outside of Reading.
