Witcher 1, 2, 3 and any DLC in-between all take place in the same universe and in some instances choices you make in one game carry on into the other.On the other hand, The Witcher 3 is a fair bit more permissive, with combat being smoother and faster, fitting in better with the open-world, free-roam structure. Geralt is also more resilient and quick healing with potions is more of an option than it was in TW2, which required you to drink all potions ahead of time. Ultimately, The Witcher games take place several years after both the books and Netflix's The Witcher. However, The Witcher games are also incredibly faithful to the books in the way they represent Geralt's world overall.
Is The Witcher 2 worth it : It's without a doubt one of the best story-driven RPG out there, if not the best. And that's coming from someone who has played RPGs since the 80's.
