Why did Matrix 4 fail

The absence of Lawrence Fishburne as Morpheus in The Matrix 4 frustrated fans who adored his portrayal of the character in the previous films. The Matrix Resurrections had lower stakes and a more somber tone compared to the original trilogy, which may have turned audiences off from the movie. The penultimate scene of The Matrix Revolutions sees Neo jacking into the Matrix one last time, where he and Agent Smith engage in a cataclysmic battle. Neo quickly realizes that he and Smith are evenly matched, and he allows Smith to assimilate him. However, Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving's Morpheus and Agent Smith did not return. Instead, the new Morpheus was a computer program played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, while Jonathan Groff portrayed the latest incarnation of Smith.

Does The Matrix 4 ignore 2 and 3

Matrix Resurrections is set after the events of the third film, The Matrix Revolutions. While the movie is rebooting the franchise with the introduction of new characters, the fourth film builds on the existing story.

Although I haven't a reason to doubt that, the 2nd (and 3rd) Matrix fall in the tradition that many sequels of good movies suffer from. Despite the fact that practically the same cast and crew who created the magnificent first part is here for the 2 & 3 (they shot it back-to-back) the movie quickly loses its spirit. This is not the next huge chapter in The Matrix saga. However, it's very enjoyable return that has some meta fun with itself. If you you love this world and have a yearning for seeing Neo and Trinity again you'll have a good time. Just don't go in looking for more than that.

Why did Matrix 3 fail : The Matrix Revolutions shifted the bulk of the focus from the Matrix to the real world, and the conflict taking place in Zion. This was a mistake that robbed the narrative of its most ingenious plot device. When the action finally does revert back to the Matrix, the magic is already gone.
