I would be equally comfortable visiting either GC or Lanza (and I've been to both multiple times) and never had a bad experience on either. Personally I steer clear of Tenerife as there seem to be a lot more complaints about petty crime there.

Get away from the "tourist areas", as they are far from reality and you will not be able to enjoy everything that Tenerife has to offer.
